Park Hill, completed in 1961, is a radical housing scheme that attempted to invent a new and modern way of living.
The estate, designed by architects Jack Lynn and Ivor Smith (under city architect John Lewis Womersley), attempted to bring the treasured traditional British street culture into what has been nicknamed, the ‘streets in the sky‘. Behind the brutalist concrete grid-facade is something of a more human level – a community that resides in a mix of flats and maisonettes.
