The White House was built in 1840 and located in Worcester. It lies within a Conservation Area, and although not Grade Listed itself, it is nestled amongst numerous listed buildings.
There is an existing and historic two storey annex attached to the North-East corner of the house. It is believed this was originally the servants quarters and separate from the main house. At some point, the servant quarters were connected to the main house and since accommodated a small kitchen on the ground floor and a bedroom on the first floor.
The existing kitchen, for the size of the house, was under-sized providing inadequate space for the client’s family. In addition to this, the existing kitchen, due to its location within the annex, is somewhat divorced from the current dining room in the main house. The final proposal comprises a single-storey orangery extension form a new open-plan kitchen and dining space. This extension is enhanced by natural daylight, penetrating into the kitchen through a central sky lantern in the orangery roof.
